Your varsity Cougars took home a heart stopping win on Thursday night over the Eastern Hills Highlanders. In a game that went back in forth several times, Emmmanuel Nshimiyimana knocked in the game winning field goal with just 6 seconds left in the game to secure the victory. With 4 minutes and 25 seconds left, the Cougars scored on a Tyreke Lewis run around the right side to take a 27-20 lead. Coach Moilan made the decision to go for the two point conversion to make it a two possession game. The two point conversion failed! The Highlanders then took the ball down the field and scored a touchdown with 3 minutes and 19 seconds left. The Highlanders would be successful on their two point play and took a 28-27 lead. Over the next 3 minutes and 13 seconds, runs by Keyon Butler and Tyreke Lewis and a huge reception by D'Mareay Horsby moved the ball down the field. Keyon Butler broke free for a 26 yard run but got stopped on the four. Tyreke Lewis battled ahead for 2 yards, Keyon got one, and with no timeouts left the Cougars had to spike the ball on third down. With 6 seconds left on the clock, RJ Moilan snapped the ball, Cam Hawkins got the hold down, and Emmanuel booted through the game winning field goal. What a game by both teams....One that you hate to see anyone lose.
The Cougars will take on the Castleberry Lions this Thursday night. It is Hall of Fame Induction night. Kickoff will be at Handley field at 7 pm.
