As we enter week 6 of the season, the Cougars stand at 2-3 on the year with five regular season games remaining.
First and most importantly, we smashed the first six weeks. At the varsity level, we had a 98% retention rate, only losing one athlete to grades. We appreciate all of your help to reach this success.
On the field, we have seen a lot of growth from our young team over the last five weeks. We are excited about finishing this season strong and about the future as our JV cougars have seen success as well.
At the varsity level, the defense has been led by Junior Brycen Foster who has 45 tackles on the season from his outside linebacker position. Opposite of him on the other outside, Senior Love Willis is right behind him with 44 tackles. Senior inside linebacker, Dominic Salazar has gotten better every game this season and is third on the team in tackles with 39. Up front, our defensive line has played extremely well this season. Junior Lester Cole leads this group with 22 total tackles and 6 sacks. Senior D'Shun Hawkins has 21 tackles and a sack. In the secondary, Senior Javares Hamilton and Junior Michael Williams both have 30 plus tackles from their safety positions.
The offense is led by junior Quarterback Kyu Wilson. Kyu has thrown for 196 yards and 2 TDS and rushed for 222 yards and 4 TDs through the halfway point. We have had a few of running backs in the backfield led by Senior Kaream Williams. Kaream has rushed for 492 yards and 3 TDs so far this season. Junior EJ Jones has added another 166 yards and is starting to hit his stride in the backfield. Leading the way up front has been junior Kevin Cruz, junior Landon Price, Sophomore Anthony Rodriguez, senior Rod Gray, and senior Jayson Aden. At the receiver spot, Sophomores Jeremiah Stribling and O'Rylon Crockett have improved each game and have led all receivers in reception yards and both have a TD catch on the season.
